Members of the Port Townsend Pickleball Club will have the opportunity to take part in a clinic for referees during the last week of June. The clinic will be scheduled for June 28, 29 or 30 at the home of registered ref and Pickleball Ambassador, Kathy Thomas.

The purpose of holding the clinic at this time is to train referees for our upcoming tournament for beginners (see details below in this newsletter). The clinic will last 2-3 hours followed by 2-3 hours of reffing games with specific scenarios.

This is the perfect opportunity to get the training to not only referee in tournaments, but to become more familiar with pickleball rules changes and best practices for reffing.

Kathy indicates that It would also be good if participants take both the lines and the player test for practice. (No pressure to pass either test). Both the rules and the tests are available online at the USA Pickleball Association website.
If you are interested in this clinic, please contact Jeannie Ramsey with your preferred clinic date at jeannieram01@gmail.com or 360-531-4195.

Hello, PT Picklers,
Hopefully, Spring has finally arrived, but keep your fingers crossed. Things could change in a heartbeat.
Help put us over the top!
Foremost on the Board’s agenda is the Capital Campaign. We are so close to raising the funds we need to install the permanent pickleball courts at Mountain View. Thanks to all of you who have already contributed. Our 82 donors are primarily Club members, but that also means half of our members have not made a pledge to donate. If you have been meaning to (which is what I hear a lot) or you’re sitting on the fence (and fencing is an important part of the project), please consider making a pledge now. It’s easy to do - download the pledge form or donate onlineusing this link:  https://www.ptpickleball.com/pledge-donationscapital-campaign.html.

PTPC Board Positions
Volunteers are the backbone of our Club, and three of our incredible volunteers are stepping down from the Board. I wish to thank Patti Rowdabaugh, Vice President, Craig Walls, Treasurer, and Kim Anderson, Director of Communications, for their years of hard work, dedication, and expertise in steering this Club toward reaching its goals. Their time and energy have been invaluable.
That means, of course, their positions on the Board must be filled. So far the Nominating Committee has found two volunteers who are stepping up:  Kirk Rowdabaugh for Treasurer, and Mark Finco for Director of Communications. We are grateful that these members are willing to donate their time and skills to the Club. We still need to fill the position of Director of Membership. This person tracks all of the members, including new members and renewals, and works closely with the Treasurer and the Director of Communications. A knowledge of a spreadsheet program is necessary, preferably Excel. If you or someone you know might be willing to take on this task, please contact Patti Rowdabaugh at ptpickleball@gmail.com.

PTPC Annual Meeting/Potluck
We hope you will mark the date of Saturday, June 25, on your calendar for our first Annual Meeting/Potluck, from 3:00-5:00 pm. It has been postponed for two years because of Covid, and it will be held at the HJ Carroll Park Pavilion. One item of business will be to elect the new members of the Board. The final slate of nominees will be sent out before then, but anyone can nominate another candidate from the floor. Mostly, the gathering is a time to meet new players, socialize, share pickleball adventures, and have fun. All are welcome, but only members can vote.

Club Events
It is great to see all of the activities that the Club is sponsoring. We have Jeannie Ramsey to thank for these –the Challenge Ladders, the Round Robin, the Intermediate Clinic with Doug Hastings, all of which are maxxed out with participation. We have a Referee Clinic and Beginner/Advanced Beginner tournament to look forward to soon. Meanwhile, Social Saturday continues to be well-attended. Many thanks, Jeannie.
Hope to see you on the courts and at the Annual Meeting, and as always,
Happy Pickling!
Lynn

Meet Club Member Joel C. Janetski.
I grew up in Great Falls, Montana, with a fishing rod in one hand and a shotgun in the other.  My father was an amateur archaeologist and my experiences with him exploring remnants of the lives of ancient people eventually led me to a 30-year career as an archaeologist and university professor at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. I loved my work and my students and continue a modest level of involvement in the discipline. My career focused on exploring the pre-European history of the arid west (Utah, Arizona, Nevada) for the most part, although I also pursued projects in Western Samoa and Jordan. Read more.

The Round Robin Friday weekly has been a grand success! Thank you to Jeannie Ramsey, our Club's event planner (far right), who has organized and made this a fun event for all.
