Congratulations to our Jeannie Ramsey and her partner Beverly Hoffman of Sequim (pictured on the right) who brought home a silver medal from the Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championship in Indian Wells, CA. Jeannie said that it was an evening and night of endurance. They played from 5-10 pm in 40-degree temperature. Each of the medal-winning teams won three matches, so it went down to points scored, and they won in point differential! We are so proud of these two ladies. Hello, PT Picklers, Winter is upon us, and fortunately, we have pickleball to help us survive cabin fever. The Board has been working hard on negotiations with the City to acquire the Mountain View site for permanent pickleball courts. It’s been a slow slog, and we recognize the City has a lot of urgent and important issues to deal with, like a water contract with the mill, poplar trees, and the like. Nonetheless, we are trying to stay on their radar. We still hope to present our proposal to the City Council soon, and we’ll keep you posted. Social Saturdays (formerly Sundays) have been a wonderful success, when the weather cooperates, that is. We will continue to have them at the high school on Saturdays throughout the winter, except for Christmas or New Year’s Day! On days of inclement weather, we will not be sending out word of any cancellation. Go to Playtime Scheduler to communicate with those who have signed up, and use your own judgment about whether you want to play. There always seem to be some hard-core players who will battle the rain, sleet, and wind to play their favorite sport. The Mountain View YMCA will require vaccinations for participants in their programs, starting on January 1, 2022. That’s welcome news for most of us. Also, in case you didn’t know, the Y upgraded their ventilation system last year to comply with safety standards regarding Covid 19. No change, though, on wearing masks. The Y Indoor Schedule is a work in progress. We will send out revisions in a blast as they occur. As of now, we have added a Beginner session with coaching on Fridays at 9:00. Both newbies (those who have never played) and beginners are welcome. Many thanks to Jim Maupin and Mike McCoy for signing on to be official Y volunteers and to PTPC volunteers, Shar, Mary, Toni, and Susi, for making this program possible. We’ll keep it going if we can. We wish you all a Happy Holiday season and all the best for a Happy New Year! Lynn
