A Message From Our President Hello all you Picklers, Today, I am signing off as your president. It has been an honor to serve our newborn club. I am thankful to all the board members and members who have made the creation of the club possible. I will always be here for whatever support I can give to help keep the club growing and fully functioning. At the last board meeting, our board chairs painted an optimistic picture of what the future may hold for PTPC. ● The new facility at the courthouse (2 new courts with permanent nets and a 3rd court lined for the future) may have construction under way as soon as July. A bid was accepted for the resurfacing and it should start soon. Of course, as you know with construction, the start date is with fingers crossed. ● We are in negotiations with the city for resurfacing of the MV courts. Jim Dow has drawn up 4 options for this project and although there is much to pound out, we are optimistic that one of these options might be accepted. The options include 3 or 4 courts with one of the 4 court options having a nice basketball standard on the end court with pickleball lines included for placement of a portable net. We will keep you updated on this project. ● We were able to secure nominees for all of our open board positions. This newsletter announces that slate of nominees. Please don’t let this deter you from running for one of these positions yourself. And please vote for your new board member nominees as soon as you get the blast announcing the vote towards the end of the month. Other clubs news: ● We will be holding a work party soon to power wash and weed the MV courts. Stay tuned for the announcement seeking volunteers. ● We hope to hold our all members' annual meeting and party in August. Stay tuned for that announcement for date, time and place. ● New Onix and Franklin balls were placed in both storage boxes. Please don’t walk away with them in your pockets. ● Please renew your $40 membership by July 1st. Don’t forget to fill out the membership form and submit it along with your PayPal payment or your check sent to our P.O. Box. That is it. I am signing off. Thank you again for allowing me to lead you these last two years. One last tip of the month- “Change it up, don’t be predictable.” Mary Proposed Slate of Officers and Board Members Two-Year Term beginning 7/1/21 A REMINDER TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP NOW AND BE PUT INTO A DRAWING TO - WIN A FREE T-SHIRT Dear PTPC Members, First of all, thank you for the support you all have given the Club this past year. It is that time - all memberships expire June 30th, 2021. We are asking you to please renew your membership and help PTPC keep moving forward toward our goals. If you have not joined the Club, please consider becoming a member. Your dues support the daily operation of the Club, help maintain equipment, provide access to the courts, and bolster the Club's goals to acquire more permanent places to play pickleball. All new and renewing members are asked to please fill out and submit a membership form online at https://www.ptpickleball.com/join-club.html. You can use PayPal or credit card online or send a check to PTPC, PO Box 440, Port Townsend, WA 98368. Thank you for your continued support. Slight Schedule Change for PTHS Courts There will no longer be 2 2-hour sessions. Instead there will be one session from 9-1:00, on Monday through Saturday, so players can come at any time and stay as long as they wish. Also please remember that court assignments are fluid and can be adjusted according to the number of participants who show up on any given day. If you don't have a rating, you can watch the other players and try to figure out which skill level you'd be most likely to fit into. Go ahead and give it a try. Finally, we hope to see more players at Open Play. This is a time to meet different folks, to socialize, and to vary your level of play. To see the revised schedule, go to the PTPC website: https://www.ptpickleball.com/current-news/may-21st-2021 Do you want to shake up your #pickleball drilling sessions? Our knee lies right in the middle of the hip and lower leg so it's very important that all of these muscles are as strong as they can be. Click here to strengthen those areas. "Even when playing pickleball, you have to stop and smell the flowers" Photo taken and sent in by club and board member "Jeannie Ramsey" I personally love this website "Feasting at Home" for tasty, healthy and easy recipes. Owner Sylvia is from the PNW and I like her style of global cuisine. Here is a good looking recipe for a Greek salad, a go to for picnics and potlucks. Click here for recipe. On behalf of PTPC board and club members, we want to thank "Mary Critchlow" for serving as our President. Mary has been at the forefront since the formation of PTPC. Her outstanding leadership, along with her diplomacy, patience, perseverance and passion led the Board and Club to where it is today. "Mary was the name and face of pickleball in Port Townsend before the Club got organized, and she was the perfect person to lead the club through its beginnings," said Lynn Pierle, Port Townsend Pickleball Ambassador. "Look at all we have accomplished, in spite of a pandemic. Thank you, Mary." We are fortunate to have had her serve as our president. Board member Craig Walls says it perfectly, “Thank you so much, Mary, for guiding our pickleball club during your presidency. We have a great club because of your leadership.” I think we can all agree to that! "Leaders instill in their people a hope for success and a belief in themselves. Positive leaders empower people to accomplish their goals." -Unknown To keep up with our current news and playing times, please visit our website at www.ptpickleball.com Follow us on Facebook
