Meet Club Members,  Eric and Susan Seder
Photo  taken in Peru
Eric and Susan Seder met on a blind date in San Francisco while he was living in New York and she was living in Boise, Idaho. The rest, as they say, is history. They ended up spending two decades in the Bay Area and raising two children, their daughter, Hayden, and their son, Anton.  It was probably foreseeable that since Eric was an investment banker and Susan owned a brand new restaurant when they met, they would eventually wind up owning and running an interior design and retail store in Sun Valley, Idaho. They built a pretty decent business, largely serving the needs of the rich and famous, a great many of whom have one of their homes there.  But while it is nice to have clients with taste and resources, it can also lead to being pushed and pulled too hard and in too many directions.

So, when it came time to think about retirement, they decided to look for some place that was a little more laid back and was near Olympia, where Anton lives with his wife, Shelly and daughter, Golden, who is known to all as Gogo (she is 4 years old now).  Port Townsend seemed just right. It also had a newly formed Pickleball Club, which Eric found to be appealing (Susan did not yet play).  So, in 2019 they sold the business and their house, loaded up the truck and moved to PT.  At the time there were very few  houses on the market, so they foolishly bought a long-neglected tear down prospect built in 1888 and commenced refurbishing it.  The following two years were too painful to describe in a family newsletter, but if you’ve seen the movie “The Money Pit”, it was something like that but without any of the comedy.

But, while struggling through this, Susan took up Pickleball and they both managed to take off the toolbelt and pick up the paddle to play fairly often. They are both extremely appreciative of the opportunity that Pickleball presented for making friends in this wonderful community despite the general Covid-induced isolation everyone was going through.

They both love to travel, ski, hike, read and play pickleball.  Susan is a jigsaw puzzle fanatic and also a constant gardener and, in fact, three of her gardens were on the Garden Tour in Sun Valley.  Eric is into cooking, crosswords and building things because he didn’t learn his lesson from the Money Pit experience. Eric currently serves on the board as Director of Facilities.
