Hello, Port Townsend Picklers, What a busy and exciting week PTPC has had! The Courthouse Courts. The Courthouse Courts opened this past Tuesday, after a two-year long campaign by PTPC, and they are beautiful. Many thanks go to Matt Tyler, Manager of Jefferson County Parks and Recreation, and the PTPC Facilities Committee. The Committee met with Matt several times since fall of 2019 to plant the seed and advocate for pickleball-only courts somewhere in the county. Many sites were considered and the project finally ended up at the Courthouse. PTPC is currently in talks with Matt for dedicated pickleball hours for PTPC, and we should have an agreement in place soon. Meanwhile, please include walk-ons in your play, whether they’re Club members or visitors. We encourage players to relinquish the court after one hour when others are waiting. The county is also looking into acquiring benches, signage, and a porta-potty. We are coordinating with the county for a Grand Opening soon! Mountain View Courts. The PTPC Board, represented by Jim Dow, Eric Seder, and myself, is currently negotiating with the City of Port Townsend and the YMCA, to acquire space at Mountain View for pickleball-only courts. These talks are on-going, and we hope to have an announcement soon about a project in the near future. We will be launching a Capital Campaign to help the City with these courts. Indoor Pickleball at the Y. Currently, the YMCA is planning for indoor court use at the MV Gym for pickleball, and it is in talks with PTPC for scheduling and reservations. Stay tuned. So, as you can see, your PTPC Board has been busy these past few weeks. We are nine strong, we are busy, and we need help. Please consider volunteering to help meet our needs (Capital Campaign, Merchandising, Beginner Instruction, Event Planning, Scheduling, Technology), whatever skills you can bring. Send a message to ptpickleball@gmail.com if you want to pitch in. Happy Pickling! Lynn LOST AND FOUND We currently have set up a lost and found in our membership contact list on our website. If you have lost or found an item on the pickleball courts, you can sign into our contact list portal and look there to see if anyone has turned it in.
