Important Changes to the High School Schedule – Please Read!

On Thursday, three PTPC Board members met with the Superintendent of Schools, Sandy Gessner-Crabtree, and two of her staff to address the noise complaint of one of the neighbors near the pickleball court at the High School. After a constructive discussion, PTPC agreed to reduce its hours of play to try to mitigate the noise issue. Here are the changes to the schedule at Port Townsend High School, as of Sunday, April 4, 2021:
  • NO SUNDAY PLAY – no pickleball at all at the High School on Sunday. Use Mountain View courts.
  • REDUCED HOURS ON MONDAY THRU SATURDAY, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
  • No masks required while playing, but please mask up if you’re on the sidelines and not playing.
  • Four courts now available at both sites. Continue to sign up using Playtime Scheduler.
Parking Issue at the High School. In addition to the above changes, players have been asked to PARK ONLY IN THE SPACES ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CHURCH. Please do not park on the street in front of the homes or on the side of the street where the courts are.

While these accommodations are not ideal for pickleball players, the Board is optimistic that a future site with permanent courts can be developed in collaboration with both the City and the School District. Meanwhile, Happy Pickling, and please enjoy your pickleball quietly.

Survey Results for Indoor Play at the MV Gym

Discussions with the Y have proceeded regarding indoor play. The results of the PTPC survey about indoor play showed limited interest for playing inside through the spring. Thus, PTPC has informed the Y that it would like to launch its new indoor program in the Fall. (The Y may proceed to develop its own pickleball program, mainly targeting beginners, until then.) Stay tuned!

The Survey Results were as follows:
Yes, indoor play now – 18
No indoor play –  11
No indoor play now, but yes in the Fall - 18
