Rhody Parade
Port Townsend Pickleball Club had a great turn out for the 2026 Rhody Parade last Saturday. We had 15 members volleying and dinking our way through the parade. We even managed a few exchanges using our banner as a net. It was a great time!
Tournament Preparation Clinics
On 17 May, Cheryl Hollatz and her team ran the second clinic on what to expect if you compete in a tournament. On June 14th, she will hold a Practice Tournament at the Port Townsend High School Courts for anyone who participated in one of the clinics. We will post the tournament on Playtime Scheduler on 24 May.
Annual Meeting – 13 June
Please don’t forget the Port Townsend Pickleball Club Annual Meeting on 13 June 2026 at 11am to 12:30ish. We’ll have the meeting at the Mountain View YMCA in the Annex Building (across the breezeway from the reception area). This year we’re having a PotLuck, so bring your favorite dish to share with your fellow pickleball members.
Modified MiLP Tournament Details
In July, PTPC will host a Modified Minor League Pickleball Tournament with Intermediate (Saturday, 11 July) and Advanced (Sunday, 12 July) brackets. Four-player teams should come up with a fun Team Name. We will post the tournament on Playtime Scheduler on 7 June, one team member should sign up and add other team members in notes. The Tournament committee has worked out the details as follows:
Brackets:
Intermediate Teams will have a Combined DUPR Level of no more than 13.75 with no player over 3.5. For players without a DUPR, we will use self-rated levels to determine the Team's Combined Score.
Advanced Teams will have a Combined DUPR Level of no more than 15.5 with no player over 4.0. For players without a DUPR, we will use self-rated levels to determine the Team's Combined Score.
Group Play:
A Match consists of four Games. The first two games are one Women’s Doubles game and one Men’s Doubles game, and then two Mixed Doubles games. If two teams are tied after these four games, the teams will play a Singles Tiebreaker (described below), with a rotational system involving all four players.
If we have a time constraint, total points will be used as a tiebreaker. If a tie still exists, teams will play a Singles Tiebreaker
Teams first play each other in group or round-robin play, and then the top 4 teams square off in a playoff bracket format. During bracket play, teams can opt out of playing the 4th game if one team has won the match with 3 consecutive game wins.
Captains:
All teams must designate a Team Captain, who will be responsible for the dice roll, mixed doubles team designations, and singles tiebreaker rotations, along with all communication with referees or the Tournament Director.
Schedule of Play:
Dice roll or Coin Toss:
The winner will make a choice between these three options:
Choose to be either the Home or the Away Team; where Away Team designates their line-up and then Home Team designates theirs
Choose to start each game serving or receiving
Choose which end of the court to start Women’s Doubles
After the winner makes a choice, the loser will make a choice between the two remaining options. After the loser makes their choice, the winner will decide on the last option available.
Coin Toss Example:
Example: Team A wins the coin toss. Team A chooses to be the Home team. Team B chooses to start each game receiving. Team A chooses an end of the court to start Women’s Doubles.
Rally Scoring to 15, win by 2:
A point is earned after every rally, whether it was won by the serving or receiving team. During rally scoring players do not switch sides after winning points. Player A starts on the right side and serves when the score is even and Player B serves from the left side when the score is odd. Player A and B must also receive serves on their respective side. A team may choose to switch player sides during end change when the first team reaches 8 points OR during any time-outs. Teams must announce they are making the change before play resumes.
Tiebreaker Rules:
If a match is tied 2-2, a Singles Tiebreaker will be used in a Game to 21, where each player plays 4 points in a set order. The order will be determined as follows: The Home team will designate their full lineup, and then the Away team will designate theirs.
Teams will change ends when one team reaches the score of 11, and each team is allotted one timeout.
The Tiebreaker will use the same rally scoring as in the initial matches.
